Trekking in Torna

History of Torna Fort:
Torna was the first fort won by Shivaji at the tender age of 16. Seeing this huge fort must have prompted Shivaji to name it Prachandgad. Also this fort is one of the highest forts (4610 ft) in Pune District.

How to Reach :
Pune is the nearest station. Bus services are there from Pune swargate to the base village, Velha. It will take around 1hr. 30 minutes to reach Velha village (56km from Wakad , Pune) , and frequency of bus is after every 3-4 hrs. We went through bikes so it took exactly 1hr. 10 minutes non-stop to reach there.

About Trek :
70% of trek is normal with continous elevation & rest 30% is bit dangreous as it is quite steep. It is recommended to trek in early summers ( may - june ) or in winters ( nov - feb ) . Avoid going in rainy season as the trek become quite slippery & it is quite difficult to move down. It will take 2hrs. approximate to trek to the top of fort.

You can find eatables around 2-3 km prior to trekking path , so you can grab it from there or pack it for the journey. Also if you are going through bikes , you can safely keep them just at the bottom / start of the trek.
It is also advised to keep at least 4 water bottles with you , as it will be helpful during journey.
It is not that beautiful at the top (fort) , but you still can enjoy the trek as completing it will give you great feeling of small accomplishment.
